Cameroon snatched a historic and "ineffective" victory over Brazil
Cameroon became the first African team to defeat Brazil in the World Cup, with a historic 1-0 victory over "Samba Dancers" in Group G of the Qatar World Cup, on Friday.
However, the victory at the end of the group stage, with a goal scored by Vinos Abu Bakr in stoppage time, did not find any benefit for the “Untamed Lions” team, which was eliminated from the tournament.
In the other match of the group, Switzerland defeated Serbia 3-2, to qualify for the knockout stages of the tournament for the third time in a row.
The victory ensured Switzerland's second place in the group with 6 points, equal to group leaders Brazil, while Cameroon came third with 4 points, and Serbia bottomed the group with one point.
Switzerland will face its rival Portugal in the round of 16 in search of promotion to the quarterfinals, while Brazil will meet South Korea.
Switzerland took the lead with Xherdan Shaqiri's deflected shot in the 20th minute, making the winger, who bears the nickname "Pocket Rocket", due to his short stature and quick runs, the first player in his country's history to score in 3 World Cup versions.
Switzerland's joy lasted only 6 minutes, with Serbia, who needed to win to have a chance to pass to the round of 16, with two goals through Aleksandar Mitrovic and Dusan Vlahovic, to change the course of the match.
But Switzerland responded with two goals before and after the break by Brill Empleo and Remo Freuler, to reserve a place in the knockout stages and deposit Serbia in the championship.
